Edna Louise Snelling, daughter of Fred and Ida Ohlendorf Schuldt, was born April 9, 1914, in Fremont Township of rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek.
On July 14, 1935, she was united in marriage with Lawrence Snelling. The couple farmed for many years in the Tripoli area. Edna was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli and was active in the church circles. She had also been a member of the Bremer County Women’s Farm Bureau and enjoyed being a member of the “Kitchen Band”.
A resident of the Tripoli Nursing Home for the past three years, Edna’s death occurred there on Thursday, March 1, 2012. She was ninety-seven years old. After moving to town, she assisted with Bible study and played the organ for the residents at the nursing home for several years. Edna also enjoyed quilting, gardening, oil painting, and most especially, time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Marlene) Snelling and Clark (Kathleen) Snelling, all of Tripoli; one daughter, Betty (Don) Koschmeder of Readlyn; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Heidemann of Tripoli.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, who died in June of 1976; her parents; one grandson in infancy; and four brothers, Lawrence, Leo, Minor, and Lorraine.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2012, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli, with Rev. Marilyn Sargent officiating. Interment will be at the Fremont Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour before services at the church on Monday. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli, the Tripoli Nursing Home, or the Cedar Valley Hospice.
